Webinar, “Bringing Progressive Faith Voices toward Diverse Genders and Sexualities”

“LGBTIQ would be the test of the truth of all religions, because if the religions cannot embrace every member of the human race, then it means that the religion is not itself fulfilling its own divine universal purpose”

Penjelasan Pembatalan Acara One Day One Struggle 2016 – Regarding Cancellation of One Day One Struggle 2016

[English below]

We, the Board of GAYa NUSANTARA Foundation, a member of the Coalition for Sexual and Bodily Rights in Muslim Societies (CSBR, www.csbronline.org), hereby apologize profusely over the sudden cancellation of the event One Day One Struggle in 2016 in the form of the film “Calalai: In-Betweenness”and a discussion about Islam Nusantara and diversity of gender and sexuality, which was originally to be held in the Auditorium of Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) Surabaya in the evening of 16 November 2016. We apologize to the friends whom we were not able to tell about this cancellation, to Aan Anshori, who was scheduled to discuss the film from an Islam Nusantara framework.

The day of the event, we were informed that some extremist groups were aware of the event and may disturb the screening. Following that news, the parties involved decided to gather and cancel the event.

The Board of GAYa NUSANTARA is of course very disappointed and disturbed that freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and freedom of information have not been respected for the umpteenth time. This raises questions about the true willingness to protect LGBT and other minorities.
